Want a quick refresh of your kitchen decor and feeling a little crafty? Here’s a whole list of gorgeous sewing projects for your kitchen.
A woman cutting my fabric at the hobby store told me she made a new pair of kitchen curtains for every season. What a brilliant idea! With that in mind, I recently found some pretty seasonal fabric and ended up buying more than enough for sewing kitchen curtains. Since I would have so much leftover fabric, I thought it would be fun to make matching accessories. This began my quest for other things I could sew for my kitchen.
I thought pot holders were an obvious choice, but apparently real, working pot holders are supposed to use 100% cotton fabric and thread (or so the tutorials told me). On the other hand, I do have “pretty” potholders no one is allowed to use, ha ha, so I will make up a batch of those. They’ll work nicely to cover up the scorched and stained potholders we actually use in our kitchen.
Sewing for the kitchen can be so fun and therapeutic. But pot holders are just the start! Do you know there are at least 42 other things you can sew for your kitchen? These are great ways to decorate your kitchen with fabric and get in a little crafting time.

By the way, reusable paper towels, or “unpaper” towels, used to be called cleaning cloths or rags. But you can still make some! They’re fancier than rags when you sew scraps of toweling on one side and decorative, lint-free fabric on the other. I just think it’s humorous we have a new eco-friendly name for what people have been using for years.
