Leftover Ham Meal Ideas

Simple, flavorful ways to use up leftover ham, after a holiday or for any day!

One of my favorite things to do is score a great grocery deal, and come up with numerous ways to use the item I saved on! Just before the December holidays this year, two local grocery stores had bone-in spiral ham on sale for 99¢ a pound! This is a magnificent deal, so I bought the smallest ham I could find, but it was still too much for just my husband, me, and one supper guest.

That’s okay, because I actually love the meals we make with ham leftovers as much as (if not more than) the first big fancy ham dinner.

Leftover Ham Meal Ideas

Some of our favorite leftover ham meal ideas are very humble, but they are also very delicious!

  • Delicious Ham & Potato Soup – my favorite recipe for leftover ham.
  • Ham and beans – this is something you can make with the bone! See How to cook dry beans in the Instant Pot. You rinse your beans well, add the bone with some of the meat still attached, then follow the instructions for cooking the dry beans of your choice.
  • Ham and black-eyed peas – a perfect meal idea for New Year’s Day, and a great meal idea for leftover ham.
  • Ham in Lentil Soup – ham would be an excellent substitute meat in my hearty lentil soup recipe.
  • Ham in mac-n-cheese – I’m not pretending this is a health-conscious meal, but it is a decidedly tasty diet splurge. Maybe try having it on a cheat day.
  • Ham and cheese quiche
  • Ham and eggs for breakfast
  • Hawaiian Pizza – YUM. Ham and pineapple toppings on a homemade pizza. (Thanks, Melody!)
  • Ham sandwiches
  • Ham salad (Yes, JoHannah!! Love it so much.)
  • Split pea soup with ham (Thank you, Laura! Great idea. Mmmm.)
  • Chef salad with ham and hard-boiled eggs
  • Ham and broccoli casserole
  • Ham and cheese potatoes (Thanks, Johnnie!)
  • Green cabbage and ham with pinto beans and cornbread (cabbage is on sale this week at the local grocery store)

These are just a few of our favorite ways to use leftover ham. They are simple, everyday meals and they are filling, delicious, and even frugal – especially when you scored a great deal on the ham in the first place.

What is your favorite way to use leftover ham? I’d love to hear in the comments!
