These are the grocery deals I see this week at:
- Kroger
- Aldi
- Food Lion

Deals this week at Kroger
With Kroger, you can usually check the weekly ad the night before the new sales start. Sales run from Wednesday to Tuesday, although Kroger frequently has “weekend only” deals that run either Friday to Sunday or sometimes Saturday to Monday.
Kroger has an app and a (free) membership program. You have to be a member to get the sale price. Don’t shop at Kroger without it, or you’ll spend too much.
This week at Kroger is like 1999! (Not quite. But we’re definitely going in the right direction here.)
- boneless pork half-loin $1.99/lb
- eggs, $1.79
- ground beef, 73% lean, $3.99/lb
- boneless chicken breast $1.99/lb
- Kroger cheese $1.49/6-8 oz (reasonably good deal if you need cheese; not a stock-up price)
- cottage cheese $5 for two 24-oz containers (.10/oz)
- sour cream $5 for two 24-oz containers (.10/oz)
- Smithfield bacon $4.99/12-16 oz pkg
- Kroger lunch meat $3.79/7-9 oz pkg
Food Lion’s good deals this week
I’m still learning Food Lion, but they have some good deals and competitive store policies that make them impossible to ignore. If you have a Food Lion in your town, sign up for the MVP program.
Deals I see at Food Lion right now:
- Top round London broil $4.99/lb (yay, beef!)
- Friday – Sunday only: frozen raw shrimp, 16 oz bag, $5.99
- chicken drumsticks, $3.99/5-lb bag (works out to about .80/lb and beats Aldi this week)
- broccoli crowns $1.49/lb
- whole carrots, $1.89 for 2-lb bag (not that it’s a screaming hot deal, but it’s harder and harder to find whole carrots these days!)
Aldi Weekly Ad deals this week
I’ve shopped at Aldi since before it was cool, because they simply have good prices on food and the quality is on par with any major store brand. Some people don’t know this, but Aldi was an industry leader in offering healthier, high-quality and store-brand organics. Before everyone else was talking about it, Aldi removed synthetic colors, MSG, and partially-hydrogenated oils from their store-brand food products. And they had the best prices.
Now, in my opinion, Aldi prices have been creeping up, but that’s not to say they’re expensive. Everything went up when the inflation started around 2022. So you can still find great deals at Aldi. I’ll help you with the learning curve if you’re nervous about shopping there the first time. Just ask me if you have any questions.
The best deals I see this week at Aldi are:
- California Mandarins $2.69/3-lb bag
- Granny Smith apples $2.69/3-lb bag
- Chicken drumsticks .89/lb (Food Lion beats it this week)
- lemons $2.89/2-lb bag (Sam’s Club price is better)
- Seafood – there’s a lot of seafood in the ad this week. Since I don’t buy it often, I don’t have “buy prices” for it.
My favorite things to buy at Aldi:
- Supreme pizza (take and bake) 16″ for around $8
- Whole wheat sandwich bread for less than $2
Better prices at Sam’s this week:
Sometimes if I’m not sure of a price, I’ll compare it to Sam’s Club prices. My husband and I have had a Sam’s Club membership nearly continuously since around the turn of the century. (Sounds longer when you say it that way!) I’ve written an article on How Sam’s Club Saves Me Money.
Sam’s sort of has “sales” in that they mark certain items down for about a month at a time. Otherwise, it’s just generally good savings. Of course, you may need to buy your item in bulk (not always).
- Heavy cream, $3.12/32 fl oz (beats Aldi price this week)
- Sun-Maid Raisins, $9.78 for two 30-oz bags (beats Aldi price this week)
- Whole almonds (raw) $12.98 for 48 oz (beats Aldi sliced or slivered almonds, but you have to slice them yourself)
- lemons, $4.12/3-lb bag (beats Aldi this week)
My favorite things to buy at Sam’s Club:
- Rotiserrie chicken for less than $5
- Coleslaw mix for around $2-something
- Romaine lettuce, 6 heads, for under $5
- Baby organic spinach, 1 lb for around $5
- Spring mix salad for around $5
- Raw nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts)
- shredded or chunk cheese
